The Paperworks regularly hosts events, from street food festivals to community-boosting gardening projects. Recently the space has been at the heart of a project completed by the local community, to build a new herb garden for residents’ benefit.

Late March saw the ‘Elephant in the Garden’ take place at The Paperworks. The party celebrated the completion of Newington Causeway’s new herb garden, built by local residents in a series of workshops hosted by Park & Plant’s ‘Mobile Gardeners Park’.

Mobile Gardeners are a Community Interest Company led by three local residents: Paul McGann, Chris Mead and Richard Reynolds. This not-for-profit enterprise was created in November 2011 to take up the invitation by Southwark Council and their developer partner Lend Lease for local residents to operate a community garden in a portion of their large redevelopment zone.

The volunteer-led community interest group regularly hosts not-for-profit events in the area, including gardening events, creative events such as building the park’s geodesic dome and entertainment events, from the musical and arty to the foodie and educational.
